Keeping the pump clean and dry is very important! The pump compartment is water resistant, but due to the nature of the surroundings, some moisture does get inside. This will not be a problem as long as you remove the pump daily. Be sure to remove the lid of the pump and the batteries, and dry it out with a cloth or towel. Your pump will run for years, rustfree!

We suggest buying premium batteries for operating the pump. Cheaper discount batteries do not last as long. You need to know that your pump will last a certain length of time. There's nothing worse than waking up to 10 dozen dead minnows! Duracell and Energizer should run the pump for at least 48 hours. ** If you think your batteries are close to running out in the evening, change them before nightfall just to be sure.

Make sure before adding the water and minnows, that the insert is fixed tightly into place. Minnows will not be able to become trapped behind the insert.

If you are on a multi day trip, make sure you empty some water daily, and replace it with fresh local water. Try to change about 30-40%. You do not want to change it all, which may cause a rapid temperature change for the minnows. You simply want to change enough to prevent any foam build up, and give your minnows a fresh supply of healthy water.
